The House and the Senate have passed their versions of the farm bill. Now it is time for appointed legislators to hammer out the details for the final version of the bill. Ted Yoho, U.S. Congressman and member of the House Committee on Agriculture, believes that including funding for citrus greening is vital for the Florida citrus industry.

Before returning to Washington, D.C. earlier this week, Yoho stopped by AgNet Media’s Gainesville office where he expressed that the fate of the Florida citrus industry lies in this citrus greening research.

Hear more from Yoho:

Citrus greening is a bacterial disease that was discovered in Florida in 2005. Ever since its discovery, it has been devastating groves throughout the state. The disease is vectored by the Asian citrus psyllid. Once it makes its way into the vascular system of the tree, it can kill the tree within two years.
