Turkey Production

Now, I don’t think you need to rush out to buy your Thanksgiving turkey right now. But, I can tell you that it will not be any cheaper this year. In fact, you are very likely to pay a little more.

You know that retail prices are based on production. U.S. farmers are expected to produce fewer turkeys than they did last year. Right now, young turkeys and turkey egg, production looks about 10 percent less than last year. Like all farm production forecast reflect the prices producers expect. As well as those of the previous season.

Unlike chicken, turkey prices have only two holidays to look forward to. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Figures from those two days often determine where turkey production will go the following year. It is the only farm product that is shaped by these two days.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
