Third Democrat Emerges for Agriculture Commissioner

Dan Florida, Industry News Release

The race to replace term-limited Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam continues to get more thirdcrowded. Tallahassee Democrat Thomas Clayton White Jr. opened a campaign account this week to run in November for the Cabinet post, becoming the third Democrat — and sixth overall candidate — to take the step, according to the state Division of Elections website. White’s filing came after Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter, a Democrat, announced late last month that he would run for the job. The other Democratic candidate is David Walker of Fort Lauderdale, who opened an account in August. Republicans running for agriculture commissioner are state Sen. Denise Grimsley of Sebring, state Rep. Matt Caldwell of North Fort Myers and former state Rep. Baxter Troutman of Winter Haven.
