Winter Kitchen Gardening

Who says you can’t grow all of your favorite produce in the winter time? You can, in your very own kitchen or other properly lighted and ventilated spaces indoors. Some veggie favorites like tomatoes, kale, radishes and more. You just need to have the right amount of space and light for whatever you want to grow to your heart’s content. A windowsill is great for kitchen gardengrowing herbs, too.

For an indoor winter garden, gather your containers, soil and a good lighting system to mimic the long days of summer. Herbs and leafy greens are good for beginners because they grow easily and have shallow roots, so they’ll work perfectly in smaller containers. You could even use a bookshelves to grow produce vertically. Lettuce, kale and spinach can be grown in pots or troughs.

For a better and longer yield be sure to harvest the outermost leaves. Perfecting your produce will be ebb and flow. Tend your garden indoors as you would if it was outside. Remove dead or fallen leaves, consider fertilizing, and don’t overwater.
