low path avian influenzaToday, the Georgia Department of Agriculture announced their first case of avian influenza this year. A flock of chickens at a commercial poultry breeding operation in Chattooga County tested positive for H7, presumptive low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI). While a case of high path A.I. was confirmed in Tennessee, most all of the recent cases in Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky have been low path. Randall Weiseman recently asked USDA Chief Veterinarian Dr. Jack Shere what the difference was between the two.
