Our Department of Agriculture maintains a Food Price Index. It is intended to keep the public informed about the cost of food. In other words, it tells you when prices are up and when they come down. It is a service most people are not even aware of. For instance, most people don’t even know they paid less for beef, pork, poultry and eggs since last September. It wasn’t much, but it helped the food budget. Now, while you were paying less for the groceries you took home, you paid more for food in food you ate in a restaurant. Want to know more? Well, the Food Price Index is forecasting that trend to continue, for a while. But it won’t be enough to notice hardly. You could almost say the prices will go unchanged through next spring. Meat prices will depend on production, and both beef and pork production is expected to rise. Now that is according to the Food Price Index.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
