An estimated 43-million Super Bowl parties are expected all around the country on Super Bowl Sunday. And that means a lot of hot and cold foods, perishable foods like wings and dips, sitting out for hours and hours. And thousands of people expected to get sick – not from watching their team win or lose – but food safetybecause food borne illness can happen when food is left out for too long and then eaten. We also know that bacteria is everywhere. Some simple reminders from the USDA’s Food and Safety Inspection service if you’ll be hosting the party this year:

-keep hot foods hot (above 140-degrees)

-and keep cold foods cold – in the refrigerator or on ice

-and never leave foods sitting out at room temperature for more than a couple of hours.

-use smaller dishes – and transfer portions often

-don’t put all of your chicken wings out at once.

-use heating dishes and crockpots

-for finger foods, make sure you have plenty of toothpicks or utensils for your guests to use.
