The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is busy surveying some 40,000 cattle operations across the nation to provide an up-to-date measure of U.S. cattle inventories. The Cattle Survey is conducted twice a year to collect information on inventory of beef and dairy cattle, calf crop, and cattle on feed operations.

nassProducers will have the opportunity to report their beef and dairy cattle inventories, calf crop, death loss and cattle on feed information. To make it as easy as possible for producers to participate in the survey, NASS offers the option of responding via the Internet, telephone, mail or a personal interview with a local NASS representative.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association encourages producers who are asked to be a part of this survey to participate, as accurate and robust industry data is necessary to evaluating industry trends and for operations to plan for the future.

NASS will compile this information and then the January Cattle report will be released on January 31, 2017.
