Randall Weiseman Cotton, Field Crops, General, Industry News Release

From the Cotton Board:

cotton-logoNutrient management, including the efficient application of inputs, is critically important for maintaining cotton quality and yield year after year.

A new Focus on Cotton webcast titled “Utilizing Tissue and Petiole Sampling in Cotton Production” helps cotton growers, consultants, and other industry experts accurately monitor and maintain sufficient levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulfur.

This 35-minute talk by Hunter Frame, Assistant Professor and Field Crops Agronomist at Virginia Tech Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center, provides information that helps users:

• Follow plant sampling methods to ensure quality results
• Track expected nutrient levels through different growth stages
• Predict yield mid-season and adjust nutrient management programs
• Avoid over-applications of nutrients that don’t improve yield

This presentation is available at no charge, courtesy of Cotton Incorporated, through the ‘Focus on Cotton’ webcast resource located at the Plant Management Network, http://www.plantmanagementnetwork.org/foco. ‘Focus on Cotton’ contains over 35 webcasts on various aspects of cotton crop management. These talks–freely accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week–cover agronomic practices, crop protection, and ag engineering. This resource also features a new and improved Cotton Extension Search tool, where users can conveniently search for extension resources across all U.S. land-grant universities serving cotton producers.
