From USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service

USDA’s  Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) works to keep avian influenza (AI), a serious poultry disease, from becoming established in the U.S. poultry population.  AI viruses can infect chickens, turkeys, pheasants, quail, ducks, geese and guinea fowl, as well as a wide variety of other birds.  Avian influenza findings can negatively impact poultry trade, so APHIS and its partners work together to protect the vitality of this important segment of the country’s livestock industry.
