According to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, One third of all food grown and produced in the United States is wasted. There’s an awful lot of effort that goes into producing that food. There are a lot of farm families, ranch families, in the United States that work night and day, 24/7, 365 days a year to create the food. There are folks that ship it, process it, package it, spend a lot of time shelving it and checking it out at the grocery store. In the supply chain there are a lot of people employed who take pride in creating that opportunity for American families to be well fed. It would be a shame if their efforts were wasted. Food wasted means less food on the table. More waste in landfills. Less money in your wallet. Secretary Vilsack says with all that in mind we have a very ambitious national goal. Essentially we wan to reduce food waste by half by the year 2030. This is a 50% reduction over the next 15 years. To meet that goal, everyone will need to make an effort daily by reducing portion sizes. Eat what you need not more than you need. Re-use food. Make sure you understand what the best buy date and sell buy date actually means.
