TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement regarding the Florida Senate Committee on Appropriations’ passage of a key water policy bill today that will help protect and manage Florida’s water resources:

“Florida has made great strides in restoring the health and managing the supply of our water resources. However, if we want to meet the needs of our growing population and thriving economy, while protecting the natural ecosystem, we must refine and strengthen Florida’s water policy. This comprehensive water legislation will help us meet our water needs by ensuring our efforts to protect and manage our water supply are scientifically rigorous and prioritizing projects that will yield the greatest measurable impact.”

“I thank Senator Dean, the entire Senate Committee on Appropriations, and Representative Caldwell for their support of legislation that will help us achieve Florida’s current and future water needs. I also thank Senate President Gardiner and Speaker Crisafulli for their leadership in helping to secure a healthy and abundant supply for Florida’s future.”

The Committee on Appropriations unanimously passed Senate Bill 552, which is sponsored by Senator Dean. The House companion bill, House Bill 7005, is sponsored by Representative Matt Caldwell, and the Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee passed that bill yesterday.
