FDACSTALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement regarding the Florida House of Representative’s Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee’s passage of a key water policy bill today that will help protect and manage Florida’s water resources:

“Ensuring we have a healthy and abundant supply of water to meet our future needs is Florida’s biggest long-term challenge. And the time to act on bold water policy is now, when we can make the best possible decision in a non-reactionary, thoughtful way. It’s encouraging to see the Florida Legislature’s commitment to address this challenge with the passage of this key water policy bill today.

“I thank Representative Caldwell, the entire Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator Dean for their support of legislation that will help us achieve Florida’s current and future water needs. I also thank Senate President Gardiner and Speaker Crisafulli for their leadership.”

The Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee passed House Bill 7005, which is sponsored by Representative Matt Caldwell. The Senate companion bill, Senate Bill 550, is sponsored by Senator Charlie Dean.
