Tallahassee, Fla.—Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam issued the following statement regarding the House of Representative’s passage of House Bill 239, sponsored by Representatives Heather Fitzenhagen and Charlie Stone.

“Florida has a robust equine industry with a more than $5.1 billion economic impact in our state. As I head to the Florida Derby tomorrow, I’m grateful that the House of Representatives has passed legislation that will strengthen the integrity of Florida’s horse industry by prohibiting the use of certain medications and substances in horses, as well as increasing penalties for those who violate the law.

“I thank Representative Heather Fitzenhagen and Representative Charlie Stone for sponsoring this bill, as well as the entire House of Representatives for passing this important legislation.”
