Florida Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. has elected new officers for 2015-17. Tamara Wood, a representative of Florida Citrus Mutual, is the new chairwoman of the Gainesville-based non-profit organization. She has served on the Florida Agriculture in the Classroom board of directors for eight years.

“I’m excited about stepping in as chairwoman of Florida Agriculture in the Classroom,” Wood said. “We’re launching a new series of non-fiction Agriculture Literacy Day books, strengthening our school garden program with new curriculum (Gardening for Nutrition and related mini grants) and building our teacher workshop/farm tour offerings. I look forward to improving the program to reach more teachers in Florida.”

She joins Carol Roe of citrus and blueberry producer Wm. G. Roe & Sons, Inc. who has been elected vice chairwoman; Joan Kyle of Florida Fertilizer & Agrichemical Association who has been re-elected as treasurer; and Michael Rogalsky of Florida Farm Bureau Federation who has been elected as secretary. Ken Barton, executive vice president of the Florida Peanut Producers Association, will serve as immediate past chairman.

Florida Agriculture in the Classroom is a non-profit organization funded by sales of the agriculture specialty license plate called the “Ag Tag.” It helps teachers in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade educate students about the Florida agriculture industry by providing them with curricula, materials, workshops, grant money and reading programs like Florida Agriculture Literacy Day.
