TIFTON, Ga. (Oct. 1, 2014) – The Georgia Peanut Commission will be traveling to Athens, Georgia, this upcoming weekend to promote peanuts during Homecoming weekend at the University of Georgia. While in Athens, GPC will pass out koozies adorning the Georgia Peanuts logo, as well as its famous little red bags of peanuts to football fans and Athens-area residents, alike.

During the 2013 football season, GPC held the promotion in Athens for the first time and received outstanding results. During the course of the game day weekend, more than 15,000 packs of peanuts were distributed over the course of 24 hours to more than 20 bars and local restaurants. On the day of the game, GPC had a tailgate set up and continued distributing peanuts and koozies to thousands of fellow tailgaters and fans making their way to Sanford Stadium to watch the Dawgs go head to head with the University of Kentucky.

Joe Boddiford, GPC vice chairman and chairman of the GPC Promotions Committee believes peanuts are a wholesome, nutritious product to be enjoyed any time of the year.

“This type of promotion allows GPC to target consumers, particularly sports fans, and remind them to incorporate peanuts into their daily diet,” Boddiford said. “Peanuts are packed full of protein and essential nutrients and vitamins to power you through a game day weekend.”

The Georgia Peanut Commission represents 3,500 peanut farmers in the state of Georgia and conducts programs in areas of research, education and promotion. Additional information on the programs of the Georgia Peanut Commission is available online at www.gapeanuts.com.
