This week the U.S. Meat Export Federation is hosting a Congressional delegation from Mexico for a firsthand look at U.S. meat production. Joe Schuele has more on that story.

As the No. 1 volume market for both U.S. beef and pork, maintaining a positive trading relationship with Mexico is particularly important to the U.S. meat industry, and each of these visiting Congressional leaders plays an important role in shaping Mexico’s agricultural and trade policies.

U.S. red meat exports to Mexico through the first half of 2014 totaled:

• Pork/pork variety meat: 333,072 metrics tons valued at $751.6 million
• Beef/beef variety meat: 116,337 metric tons valued at $546 million
