UF/IFAS Extension Youth Development Program Lead Initiative for State Day of Service

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida 4-H members are inviting their fellow 4-H members across the state to join them in a 4-H Day of Service. This project is a call to action for 4-H members to engage in service projects that tie into the elements of the 4-H pledge – Head, Heart, Hands, and Health.

On Wednesday, July 30th, 2014, 4-H members attending Florida 4-H University take part in several service projects. 4-H University attendees are 4-H members from each of the 67 counties throughout the state. There are over 300 teens attending this year. By bringing together thousands of 4-H members throughout the state on July 30th, “we hope to be able to make the largest possible impact on our clubs, communities, country and our world. “ Andrew Horvath, State 4-H Council President.

During the Day of Service, 4-H members will travel to Alachua County Humane Society, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Florida, Bread of the Mighty Food Bank, Easter Seals Altrusa House, Einstein Montessori School, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Keeping Alachua County Beautiful, March of Dimes, Salvation Army, Wilmot Gardens.

Founded in 1909, the Florida 4-H Youth Development Program works with more than 220,000 rural, suburban and urban youth ages 5-18 and is active in all 67 counties, and with the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The 4-H program is the youth development program of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service (CES) which is headquartered in Gainesville within UF’s IFAS.
