A proposed rule for labeling mechanically tenderized beef products is under extended review at the White House Office of Management and Budget. The rule has been under review for more than three months. OMB’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs is supposed to complete reviews within 30 to 90 days. Officials with USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service are not sure about the status of the review or when the rule might be released. The FSIS regulation is one of six USDA-proposed rules currently with the office.
